From Eden to Sahara
This film will use the environmental classic Florida’s Tragedy: From Eden to Sahara by botanist John Kunkel Small to help us understand historic alerts to our current groundwater problems. By doing so, we can stress the wisdom of managing water for long term sustainability rather than for short-term political and economic gain.
The Carr Family Cabin — Celebrating a
Forgotten Place in the Florida Scrub
Equinox producers Bob Giguere and Bill Belleville
have recently completed a short film to celebrate a
“Cracker” style cabin in the Ocala National Forest
used extensively by renowned Florida naturalist
Archie Carr and his family.
Turtles of the Wekiva River
Turtles serve as a barometer of river health because they eat — and are eaten by — a lot of river inhabitants. This short film will highlight herpetologist Eric Munscher's nine-year study to identify and count turtles along the river in order to gain a better understanding of the health of the population.
Reclaiming the Past
Although the historic flow of water from the St. Johns River through Lake Jesup has been interrupted for years, restoration efforts to reopen the water connection are almost complete. Reclaiming the Past will examine how Lake Jesup is “turning back the clock” on water exchange with the St. Johns river and how other projects around the state can benefit from the diligence of grassroots efforts on behalf of Florida’s natural resources.
EQUINOX EXPERTISE COMES TO YOU!
In addition to documentary filming, the producers are available for public lectures and other presentations before, during and after the initial broadcasts of any film. Our public presentations usually include video taped segments of our documentaries, as well as outtake footage which helps illustrate the making of the film itself. We discuss both the environmental and cultural issues of our work, and the challenges of having to communicate them on film. Contact us for more information or to schedule an appearance.
